James Iroha aka Giringory from the popular Nigerian 80s comedy NEW MASQUERADE (televised by NTA), passed on today at the age of 70.
Segun Arinze, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) made the announcement.
Mr Iroha, was recently in the news, reportedly lamenting of being quite sick, poor and blind despite the fame he might have enjoyed back in the days. ‘I am almost begging for food; so I need money to pay my rent, buy my medicines and maybe repair my car’, he said. (What a shame really).
Here are some of the things to take you down memory lane.
Eni pon se, bio bio, Eni pon se, bio bio…….(The Theme song)
I am Prince Jegede Shokoya, the grandson of Idi Araba, the son of the soil and by the grace of God the only young millionaire in the whole universe.
I am Chief Zebrudaya Okorigbogbogbo alias 4,30. Faa fa fa, fao.
The New Maquerade is a CLASSIC, should be in the Hall of Fame. They don’t make TV like that any more – all before the influx of cable TV.
Here is a video clip of the actor(Gringory) at 1m 35s doing what we all loved him for. This clip would bring back really good memories for those of us who grew up during this era. You get a chance to remember the catch phrase each character was popularly known for.
RIP MR JAMES IROHA. (OOOGA!!!!)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9n22cWMAhM&feature=autoplay&list=PL77A9F499E61C72AB&lf=results_main&playnext=2
