A few months back we featured curvy and plus size fashion blogger- GABI FRESH on our “360 CLOSET CONFIDENTIAL” fashion feature. The response from you guys was immense and very receptive. I was taken aback by your surprise to see that a plus fashion lover could dress so effortlessly chic. I mean have to really pay attention to their body, and as such have a deeper understanding of what suits them. So it should be no surprise that we do have that do make heads turn.
Since then, Gabi Fresh has gone on to feature in different magazine editorials and the picture below is a tear sheet from a current shoot. She looks like a beautiful glamazon in a sheer bodysuit, edgy boots and an extravagant fur shawl.
Having Gabi as the curvy inspiration, here are some tips to looking firecely fabulous as a curvy girl.
WEAR A BODYSUIT
No, I’m not crazy. If you’re very curvy or plus size, a body suit works best to accentuate and streamline your upper body. Look at it as a more forgiving and dressy version of body magic but without the constant loss of breathe and discomfort. You can pair your body suit with a maxi skirt, cigarette pants, a pair of jeans etc. The options are endless.
DENIM IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
Denim is a universal staple that works well for anybody and it gives you value for money as it can be paired with almost anything in your wardrobe. Steer clear of baggy or loose fitting jeans, stick to straight, skinny of boot cut.
SNUG AS A BUG IN A MAXI
Maxis are fabulous because they give a very elegant and ladylike effect on the body of a curvaceous lady. Wear with chunky jewellery to give your maxi some zing!
USE SPANX WITH CAUTION
If I had a dollar for everytime I embraced a curvy girl and my arms were confronted with the tight and uncomfortable texture of spanx or as its popularly known- Body Magic, I’d be a fairly rich girl. Please, wear spanx only when absolutely necessary, that is; underneath super fitted ball gowns and bodycon dresses.
THE TOP THAT HIDES EVERYTHING
Befriend slouchy jersey tops, they scream casual cool and get rid of your tummy of any unflattering angle you wish to conceal. Pair with a pencil skirt for work, denim cut off for a day at the beach and a flirty mini for a night out.
A CURVY GIRL’S OUTFIT AMPLYFIERS
Every curvy girl should know that the ultimate foolproof outfit amplyfier for any outfit is chunky jewellery. Curvy girls have the luxury of heavier wrists and collar bones, so statement jewellery is pulled off effortlessly.
