Its no longer News that Eddie Murphy stepped down as host of Next years Oscar awards after his friend, Brett Ratner, the producer for next years edition stepped down amidst wide spread criticism for his remarks during the screening of a new movie as pointed out in one of my recent works found HERE
Brett Ratner was replaced by Brian Grazer who had the tough job of choosing who to replace Eddie Murphy. To take the easy way out (in my opinion), he brought back one of the Academy’s beloved, Billy Crystal. Apparently Crystal and Murphy have got some history between them, the pair appeared on a promo clip for a 1984 edition of Saturday night Live (SNL) and then later on it was rumored that Crystal dissed Eddie Murphy for his nature of jokes and acts (no surprise there, even Eddie’s mentor the Late Richard Pryor complained at a point). After seeing the footage, i can’t help but wonder what it would have been like if both of them were to host next years edition, definitely not as ridiculous as the pair that hosted this years edition.

Billy Crystal is a veteran when it come to acting and same applies to hosting the Oscar awards for he has hosted it a record of 8 times prior to his being called up to take on the role yet again after Eddie Murphy stepped down.You might remember him from movies like America’s Sweethearts (picture inserted below), When Harry met Sally, City Slickers & Analyze This.
Brian Grazer had a chat with Entertainment Weekly after appointing Billy Crystal as the host and he explained his reason for picking him;
We had probably 20 different candidates. But I did tell Billy Crystal a year ago, when I was at Graydon Carter’s Oscar party, I said to him at the bar, “If I do ever [produce] the Oscars, I’d like you to do it.” So I didn’t have to think about it very much. I think he’s awesome. He does it really well. He has the same goal as the audience, which is to have a good time. I reflected about a half a day about it, and then I called Billy. According to Grazer, Billy Crystal responded when he asked to come host next year’s show “Let me think about it for a day.” So he did, and he called and said, “I’m doing it, and I’m going to tweet it out to the world.” I said, “Go ahead!”
Your host for the 84th Academy Awards, Ladies and Gentlemen… Billy Crystal!!
