The iconic British brand collaborated with Amy Winehouse in 2010 for a fashion line inspired by the infamous brilliant singer’s casual 50s dressing. Amy being an avid Fred Perry Tshirt fan signed on immediately to be a part of British Fashion history.
The first part of the four Amy Winehouse collections was launched in October 2010 with the release of a 17 piece collection which had some of Fred Perry’s iconic pieces with an Amy added vibe to it. Amy was involved in the product style selection, application of fabric, color and styling details down to the fit.
They were 50s inspired knitted twinsets, Fred Perry Classic tailored polo T-shirts, bowling shirts, argyle long sweaters as dresses, pencil skirts, gingham check shirt dresses, shorts, wide belts, bags and penny loafers all in predominantly pink, black and grey colour palette.
After her untimely death this year, there had been speculation about the release of the other collections due out this year and next year. Luckily for the brand and Amy fans with the blessings of the Winehouse family, they have launched the Autumn/Winter collection for 2011 and proceeds from the now posthumous collection would be donated to soon to be established Amy Winehouse Foundation. The S/S 12 would be released next year. Watch this space.
This collection literarily uses the name of late singer’s last Album, Back to Black, with the collection using Black, White and Grey as the colour palette and Houndstooth as the pattern and the 50s as the year of reference. Pieces are iconic Fred Perry Tshirts in Houndstooth, stripes and plain patterns, Houndstooth Pencil skirts, Bowling shirts, Houndstooth shirt dresses and long sweaters, Body Con dress, micro-houndstooth wide belts, clutch and bowling bag.
Some of these pieces are definitely items to own for those of you into casual and tomboy dressing especially the classic Fred Perry Polo T-Shirts.
