Bio of Waje
Aituaje Iruobe (born September 1), who is mostly known as WAJE which is the acronym for “Words Aren’t Just Enough” is an incredible Nigerian songstress whose vocal range covers three octaves.
Waje was discovered singing in church. An industrious young lady whose love for humanity led her to study social work in the university, this resulted in her over-seeing the day to day running of a primary school in Eastern part of Nigeria.
Being very industrious, whilst in school, Waje worked part-time in tourism. She however still believed she could touch more lives with her exceptional gift and passion so she did all these without losing focus on her 1st love MUSIC.
Consequently, she decided to take a chance and fully launch into the music industry. Still a student, she paid her dues by doing free shows and singing at every opportunity she got. The silver lining this sacrifice brought was Waje being featured on P-Square’s 2008 massive hit track “Do Me”. She then participated in MTV Base’s Reality TV Music Talent Show Advanced Warning (which featured artists that were upward and on the verge of breakthroughs) where she emerged 1st runner-up narrowly losing out to the eventual winner Durella.
Waje has shared the stage with various international artists. She performed with eclectic Wyclef Jean on stage in South Africa. She also opened for Kerry Hilson during a show organised in Calabar, Nigeria. Waje has worked with a lot of the Major African artists like Banky W, eLDee, IllBliss, M.I, Deep Level and several others.
Her 2008 hit “Kolo” got her a nomination at the Nigeria Music Video Awards for Best New Video and “Somewhere” got a 2010 Hip Hop World Award nomination for Best Vocal Performance (Female). In 2010, she featured on M.I’s “One Naira” which is seen as one of the biggest Nigerian love songs ever made and also dropped the sweet sounding hit single “For A Minute”. Waje continued to show her diversity and talent by performing on stage in the 1st musical play in Nigeria “Olorumbi”
In 2011, Waje released her follow up single – the uptempo and positive “So Inspired” where she featured talented FeMCee Muna. WAJE’s purpose on the joint is to inspire young people, females especially to continuously aspire for greatness regardless of the drawbacks in their environment and life in general.
Her name is fast becoming a strong music brand her in Nigeria and she is now being regarded as the Queen of R&B/Pop. As she continues to climb the ladder of success, she stays grounded on mentoring up-and-coming singers at every given opportunity. Waje sees Nigeria as a positive place which has produced a lot of talented people who are constantly making us proud. Waje reps for Africa no matter the circumstances.
WAJE continues to perform all across Nigeria spreading her message of love and courage at the same time tidying up production of her long anticipated first album “W.A.J.E” (Words Aren’t Just Enough) which is intended to drop in the 2nd Half of the year.
She is truly amazing….
