N6:A CONDOM MOMENT IN OUR MOVIES!

share on:

This matter has always disturbed me but I wasn’t exactly clear on how to discuss it so please bear with me as you keep reading.

The menace of HIV/AIDS and its subsequent effect on the World and the entire Human race has been well documented over the years. So, i’m not gona Bore you guys with DETAILS…. Frankly speaking, if your of “Shaggable Age” and you don’t know about HIV/AIDS, Condoms, Abstisence and all its Lingo then I AM VERY SORRY FOR YOU!

Today my problem is with the MOVIE makers both in Hollywood and Nollywood..even Gh..(Ana)..Ollywood is not exempted! The only people that will not feel the wrath of my Tongue/Pen/Keyboard is Bollywood; because their movies have Little or No Obvious Sex-scenes.

HOLLYWOOD MOVIES

We all know that Sex sells and Hollywood is at the fore-front of pushing that commodity. Every Hollywood movie must possess an Ample dose of Horror, Action, Suspense and …. SEX! … sometimes in Large amounts sometimes with Moderation.  I dare say its fair to say  that at least 80% of the movies that are created In and For Hollywood have hot, steamy, passionate Sex Scenes.

Remember, that it was Indiscrimate to have a Bi-Racial Sex scene in a Movie but it was Accredited and i dare say it was the reason behind a certain “Black-American actress’ Oscar”!  I will refrain from going into details… We All know how Monsters’ Ball nauuu?

MY QUESTION THEREFORE IS……

Since this HIV/AIDS menace is soo Dangerous and Widespread, it will not cost both Hollywood and Nollywood  Movie directors anything to include a Condom moment in their movies.

WHAT DO I MEAN BY A CONDOM MOMENT???

Just before a Sex Scene in your Movies.. could you please give a little Pause, where the Male Lead character reaches for a condom just before Intercourse???. That’s what I mean by a “Condom Moment” Come to think of it, the Last condom Moment I can remember was in KID AND PLAY’S “House Party” Movies (I think it was House Party 1) where Kid … (abi Play?i can’t tel which from which now… anyways I am talking about the light skinned one sha!) reached for a condom before he got intimate with his girlfriend. I cannot recollect any other obvious condom moment in a Hollywood movie ever since then…most especially a Hollywood movie with a Predominantly “White” cast.

My colleague here with me at d office that is just reading over my Neck as I type, just reminded me of another conspiracy theory….AIDS IS A BLACK MANS SICKNESS AND DOES NOT AFFECT WHITE FOLK….so they don’t need to Promote condoms in their movies….SHEER FUCKERY! I say!….HIV/AIDS is no respecter of Persons, complexion or Race.

ROLE MODELS USING A CONDOM

Imagine a movie where Black Acting Heroes such as Denzel Washington, Samuel L Jackson, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Vivica Foxx, Morris Chestnut, Idris Elba, Taye Diggs, Tyler Perry, Halle Berry, Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah etc reached for a Condom just before any scenes of Intimacy?  This will go a Looooooong Way into sensitizing our youths that if Denzel or Will Smith can use a condom then I should use a condom as well. I think the Nigerian senate can go as far as to Order our movie makers that if the Movies must have a sex/Intimate scene then there should be a condom moment to sensitize people to this dreaded disease.  Not just HIV/AIDS, condoms also PROTECT you from other dirty sexually related diseases and even Unwanted Pregnancies.

I don’t know how such a Very important Action such as the inserting of a “Condom Moment” is continually overlooked and disregarded in Movies created in the world today?

ONLY GOD DEY SAVE PESIN THIS DAYS O!

If you cannot Abstain, please use a condom!

  1. I quite dig ur sentiments here but i think anyone who’s old enough to have sex should also be bold enough to demand for condom. condom moments or not in movies will help really but to what extent?

  2. I feel u N6 but i cant remember the last sex scene in a movie that the act was not done in a hurry, and to have that condom moment will result to what i call a break in transmission.

  3. I agree with you, that’s a nyc way to advertise the use of condoms.the funny thing is that hollywood actually advertised and popularized smoking of cigarettes(the cause of lung cancer)…Nyc article

  4. @Ethyle….ever since d days of DaramVeer, emar ajkbar anthony and the rest i havnt rily watchd any bollywood muvis leme confess..!

    THANX FOR READING YALL!!!

  5. Absolutely! U r sooo right. D media is d most powerful tool to make changes. Using the movies to promote sexual responsibility is a genius idea, though that is not all dats needed, ’nuff sed. By d way, dis is realy positivly candid writing, weldon!

  6. N6, na so? You just disappeared and reappeared without a word. You be David Blaine? Hope you’re good though.

That aside, I haven’t seen a Nigerian movie in a while, but this is very appropriate for the Ghanaian movie industry. I saw a Ghanaian movie recently and it was mind-numbingly horrible. Basically, it was badly scripted and directed porn, and not once did they pull out a condom despite the tons of sex (not cute BTW) in the movie.

  7. I totally agree with you.

But i’m equally troubled by the fact that if at this time and with all the negative side effects of HIV/AIDS and other numerous diseases, people still need Denzel, Latifah et al to remind them to use condoms, then we have a long way to go.

Like you said, if you’re of “Shaggable Age” and you don’t know about HIV/AIDS, Condoms, Abstinence and all its Lingo then I AM VERY SORRY FOR YOU.”

That said, hopefully “condom moments” become a staple in movies in due time… Education is power and the media is a powerful tool that should be utilized effectively.
