Anis Halloway does so brilliantly well hosting the Nigerian Idols that it makes a lot of people forget that he actually came to prominence in Nigeria as a contestant in a singing competition (MTN West African Project Fame season 2) himself and therefore he is an artiste.
The Nigeria-based Sierra Leonean born singer actually started doing music in the UK, a period during which he had a UK underground hit single “Eyes on Me” which was in the CHANNEL U – TOP TEN VIDEO CHARTS for weeks, sparking media interest with interviews from the likes of BBC 1xtra, RWD magazine, Touch magazine etc.
Moving on, Anis continued on the grind doing work underground with the likes of Silvastone, who is a reknown producer/DJ in the UK, Blak Twang, Sway, K9, Unique Hastings, Hybrid X, and S.O.E, all artists doing big things in the UK mainstream and underground scene.
Having acquired a wealth of experience between 2001 and 2009, Anis decided to take a trip back to the motherland where he planned to start his African expansion; and indeed not long after he landed, he realized that he stood out as one of the finest artist to hit Sierra Leone for decades. To buttress this fact Anis qualified to represent Sierra Leone on MTN project fame season 2 West Africa in Nigeria. He was the only Sierra Leonean to enter the academy, finishing in top ten positions out of thousands who auditioned in the whole of West Africa.
The grind continues from backing vocals for the likes of Emmanuel Jal, Olu Maintain to collaborating with Illbliss aka Ibo Boy and top
producers like Tha Suspect, Micworx, Ush productions and Tee -Y Mix.
Though an international flyer; one place you will likely find Anis more often than not is The city of Hustlers- Lagos Nigeria; home to
some of the greatest African musicians of our time. Armed with this 9aija advantage, Anis is already making big waves, and
is set to be the first Sierra Leonean born artiste to be recognized on an international music platform.
Check out his songs below including his personal peace project We Nor Want That – a deeply touching piece which talks about his experience in the Sierra Leonean civil war of 1998 and world peace generally. Both songs are produced by ANIS himself and video shot by NODASH of SOMETHING UNUSUAL STUDIOS.
