Every now and then, especially on the music scene a phenomenon happens that leaves a particular name or sound reverberating for years. It’s obvious, from the first listen that the Nigerian music scene is on the verge of such an occurrence.
With a name like NAME you have to wonder; what is this guy thinking? In response, he answers with a quiet smile; “I think I’m the identity…the sound of a whole new generation. It’s all in the Name”. And after listening to this self-styled ‘R & B answer to Dagrin’, you can’t help but agree.
Born Lanre Adeyemi, the graduate of Engineering from the University of Ado-Ekiti has been working at his song-writing skills for a while, preferring to be a rapper. After meeting some interesting individuals in 2005 convinced him that singing was his strength, he began to focus more on his R & B craft. Contributing back-up vocals and lyrics to a couple of acts, he hooked up with producer Machyld in 2010 to start work on his debut mixtape; Call Me Name. Debuting the single ‘Aya Mi’ on twitter to several downloads, he decided to release the single officially with a side b ‘Baby Girl part II’ featuring rapper GQ. Slated for a second-quarter 2011 release, Call Me Name is the ambitious debut to an illustrious career.
