‘Kayode Adegbola, a budding photographer recently exhibited his debut collection of 20 photographs in Ibadan. The Opening Ceremony and Private Viewing held on the 23rd of December 2010, after which the exhibition remained open to the public, everyday until the 31st of December, it was hosted by The Address 21 – a luxury boutique hotel in the ancient city of Ibadan.
The short opening ceremony had Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Executive Governor of Ekiti State (ably represented by Mr. Ayo Afolabi – Director of Publicity of Action Congress Nigeria in the South- West) as the special guest.
The exhibitor, Kayode Adegbola explained his choice of Gov. Fayemi as his special guest, saying that it was a great opportunity to honour him on the recent landmark judgement in his favour at the Court of Appeal. He further said that Fayemi has been a role model and a symbol of perseverence to him and others in his generation.
In response to Kayode’s address, the representative of the Governor, Mr. Ayo Afolabi saluted his creativity and thanked his parents for supporting the young photographer. He further urged the audience to rise for a minute’s silence in memory of Chief Bola Ige, former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of Nigeria, the grandfather of the exhibitor, who was murdered on the same day 9 years earlier.
This was followed by a musical interlude by the Ibadan Jazz Band, which allowed guests to get drinks before they were ushered into the gallery in small groups for a private show-around by the exhibitor.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony include the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State – Chief Iyiola Oladokun; and Ambassador Ibironke Adefope (former Nigerian Ambassador to Zambia and Malawi), Chief Yemi Ogunbiyi of Tanus Communications, Mr. & Mrs. Bankole Olayebi; Mr. Dapo Oyewumi, Professor Mrs. Ade-Ajayi, Mr. Makin Soyinka, Mr. Deji Haastrup, Mr Kola Esan – Head of Chambers, Bola Ige & Co., Mrs. Ify Ighodalo – MD/Ceo of Design Options Ltd., Mr. Dapo Lam Adesina, Mr. Akin Akinola of wnewmediaNigeria, Engr. Kunle Runsewe of Dutum Ltd., Dolapo and Damola Taiwo of Unotech Media, and Prince Damola Layade.
Kayode’s photographer friends were also present – Amaize Ojeikere, Akintunde Oniti, Obi Somto, Babasola Bamiro, Babajide Akeredolu and a host of others; as well as The Nigerian Tribune, The News Magazine and NEXT Newspapers (234Next) representing the press.
The event was enjoyed by all, representative of three generations – Kayode’s friends and contemporaries, and those of his parents and grandparents who all had good things to say about the photographer, his collection, and the event.
