HIGHLIGHTS: The Future Nominees Bash!!!

share on:

If there is anything in Nigeria that excites me and gives me goose bumps, it is the Future Awards.  The biggest annual youth event in ehmm, the state/country (although it doesn’t involve all the states) where the youth converge and look extremely fabulous in a touch of green.

The Future Awards, had its humble beginnings in 2005, when RedSTRAT put pen to paper and decided to start The Future Project.  The Project is an umbrella of youth development projects/programmes that seeks to empower young people and re-direct them towards adding value to themselves and society with strong, positive images/messages.  So, the Future Awards was born. Now in its 6th season, like fine wine; it keeps getting better with age.

On the 19th of December 2010, the Embar Creek came alive with ‘The Future Awards Nomination party’.  I didn’t know what to expect from this gathering, but speaking honestly, I was proud to be a youth and to be associated with them. Punctuality is the name of the game and the organizers did not waste any time with unnecessary modalities all through the event.

Now the event was a well thought out one, even though the crowd wasn’t to responsive.  Tiwa Savage was there and performed her hit single ‘kele kele love’, and then Mai Atafo showcased his designs on ‘The Best Way to Wear Green’, Mo Cheedah was also available to perform ‘Wan Beri’ to a crowd that was just too bland (why are we like that) and then Chineyere of ……. also promoted her own collection on ‘The Best Way to Wear Green’, and I think I saw my dream outfit for the awards.  PHCN wanted to ruin the fantastic event for us but the behavior of the event organizers (Debo) was welcoming, as he went from one sit to the other explaining to the attendees what the situation was.

Among the nominees for the night was our boy Oye Akideinde for Professional of the year, Dotun Kayode  for On-Air presenter of the Year, Aisha Augie-Kuta for Creative Person of the year, Gideon Okeke, Ini Edo, Mercy Johnson for Actor and Actresses of the year and a host of other nominations.

Kudos to The Future Awards team on the successfully outing and I will be there live and direct for the Awards ceremony proper.
