BLOSSOMING JANUARY

share on:

The Christmas and New Year season, was a whirlwind of activities that didn’t disappoint me at all. Ushering in January, I felt the month was going to be dry, ordinary and totally void of anything entertainment but boy was I very, very wrong.  From the 1st of the month till date, activities have lined up every weekend some of which I could not attend cause I was still recuperating from the ones from the yuletide.

Now, after all the rest and trying to get my groove back together, this weekend and subsequent weekends in this month and more are going to be the beginning of great events the country and this site will ever see.

Gone this weekend was the IREP 2011 film festival, 22nd and 23rd which took place at Terra Kulture and Freedom Park both in Victoria Island. The IREP 2011 film festival, which is in its maiden edition officially started on the 20th of the month and it, is the brain child of Femi Odugbemi the director of the award winning television drama TINSEL. Day 1 and 2 was a mix of speeches, book launch, film screening, symposium, paper presentation workshops and all. Days 3 and 4, for those people and individuals who want to go into documentary directing, there will be documentary training workshops, round table discussions, question and answer sessions and film screening of short stories from Mr Odugbami (Nigeria), Manthia Diawara (Mail/USA), Deji Adesanya (Nigeria) and Cora De Lang (Sri Lanka). The Crown Troupe had a grand performance  on the last day.  If you were at this event, put your hands up and share your thoughts.

For the film lovers; Wale Adenuga Productions, the producers of the award winning SUPER STORY, NNEKA and FRIENDS as well as PAPA AJASCO and company premiered the movie ‘PERFECT CHURCH’ on Sunday 23rd at the Silverbird Galleria Lagos. The Perfect Church, the first Nigerian novel adaption to film I know was written by Ebi Akpeti, was available to sign her novel for fans. The movie, which is highly inspirational, is about a group of different people living their lives until a message affects them all, in unusual ways and threatens to change everything about them forever. It features industry greats like Olu Jacobs, Ramsey Noah, Ngozi Ezeonu and Funke Akindele.

According to Mr. Adenuga, the movie is his latest divine assignment (We are nothing but pencil in the hand of the creator) and his fulfillment will come from the souls that will be saved after watching the movie!!! Amen.

For our music crooners; today the 25th day of the month pay attention as Darey sensual RnB singer will be releasing his 3rd solo album titled Double Dare at a venue yet to be announced. Not only is Mr. Alade going to release a double dose album, he is also going to release an international CD, embark on a redefinition exercise and unveil a brand new logo. (Take that haters!!!!)

Comedy peeps don’t feel left out; Wazobiafm’s popular presenter Yaw will be organizing a comedy and music show titled GROOVE & GIGGLE on the 27th. Taking place at the University of Lagos Auditorium, the show is aimed at bringing undergraduates of the university and their favorite artist together. It will feature the likes of Naeto C, J-Martins, AY, Ice Prince, Gordons, Koffi, Seyi Law, Jesse Jags and Whizkid baby!!!

For all you lovers of all things Youth; the mother of all events is for you guys!!! Coming up on the 29th and 30th is the Future Awards; Conference and Award Ceremony.  In its 6th season and ready to set the pace for other events to follow, The Future Nigeria is going to be the Belle of the Ball for this month’s events.
