Born in the early 1980s, real name Stanley I. Ikegbulam is 1st of 5 children all raised in the city of Lagos. He earned the nickname 5mics as a status for his rap skillz also earned by known rap act in the likes of Nas, Notorious BIG, De La Soul etc.
Parents Mr Ben & Mrs Felicia Ikegbulam who both hail from the East side of Nigeria, Imo state made sure 5mics was exposed to anything and everything that was in their enviroment, which he (5mics) credits as a major influence to his person and skill as an mc. 5mics is a devout Christian and a deep thinker who likes to listen to neo-soul, rock, jazz, afro-beat and also loves the ladies and likes to chill.
There are also no limitations to 5mics’ skills and ability, from rapper to a scholar. He went through primary & secondary school education in the city of Lagos (Hopebay College (Peter Okeke where u @?) and Festac College) for his SSCE, then went ahead to get his OND in Computer Science in the University of Abuja, then a diploma in Web designing with APTECH, and now his BSc in Business Administration with the University of Abuja.
He explores artistic regions beyond your comfort zone with combination of genre’s into hiphop with the credibility to resonate with African and international hiphop heads, the average minds, music lovers and to agberos in the streets. He started rapping since 1996 which was around his ss1 in school, and was influenced and grew up listening to Nas, EPMD, Biggie Smalls, 2pac, Rakim, Eight Ball, Boot camp Click, Wutang, KRS One, LL cool J, Def squad, Ruff Ryders and many more.
He now followed the art by hooking up with his first group Naughty Immigrants which comprised of Ben Gunz, Sly Bam, Sunny Blaze, who were still cooking demos underground. This group was known to be a small fraction of growing Festac Hiphop MCs at that time (Black Apostles, Nitro, Komo, Def O Clan, Ruff Rugged and Raw, Check One, Plantashun Boyz etc). Unfortunately the group disbanded soon after without even making it to the radio.
He then moved to Abuja to do music and hooked up with Bugged Out records managed by GLynx and released the “5th Element Mixtape“; from there moved on to a new label Music House where he released his hit singles “E Don Tey” and “Like Say” which both got massive rotation. After a long period of time, he left the label and is now a free lance artiste planning to release the “E Don Tey” mixtape soon.
