360Fresh: Hakym Goes Ahead With His Dream

Hakeem Olatunji aka Hakym The Dream was born on the 20th of August 1985, the first child in a polygamous family. He attended Day by Day Nursery School, Nigeria Navy/Alhaleem Pry School, Mahmud Amadiay College and Akintan Grammar School.  He started a degree course at the Lagos State University (LASU) but had to leave for certain reasons.

He started his music career as member of a group called The Dominance, today he and his ex group partner Alejo run a music production outfit called ‘THE DREAM PRODUCTIONS’.

Over the years, Hakym has grown from being just a recording artiste to other professions under the art. He’s gathered experience in audio production, song writing, video directing and production.

He worked with AK-One Productions as an Assistant Director and during his stint there he worked on numerous videos like Kaha’s “Heart Robber“, Terry G’s “Free Madnes Pt 2” & “Troway” and African China’s “If You Love Somebody“. He has recorded and produced movie soundtracks and theme songs, some of which include Omo Meji, Ijo ya, Music Africa and the 2010 Dynamix Awards theme song. Recently, he wrote the Lamboginy Say No To Crime campaign theme song, which featured some of Nigeria’s finest acts.

Hakym under the alias The Dream was nominated in 2009, in the Best Newcomer category at the Channel O Music Video Awards. In 2010, he has released two singles off his forthcoming album, “Dey There” and “Formular” featuring Wizkid, both songs are currently enjoying good airplay and reviews on TV and radio.

As we round up the year, Hakym is set to release 2 more singles and new videos in preparation for his debut album, which is expected to drop within the first quarter of 2011.
