Moneymaker By Day, Hitmaker By Night. His style of singing reflects the Nigerian culture over a production of Naija instruments infused with elements of RnB, Jazz & Pop; only one other new entrant to the folk/soul genre has had this effect on me this year – Oyinkansola; but I’m not here to talk about her. This is Dipo’s spotlight
Dipo’s Love & Passion for singing started way back when he was in Junior Secondary at Mayflower School Ikenne, Ogun State. Strongly influenced by Boyz II Men, he started appreciating the art of Music and went further to write songs and perform at school social gatherings.
He joined the school choir at Covenant University where he graduated from Accounting. He was singled out to perform a number of solo performances at social nights and special occasions like fashion shows.
In 2007, Dipo was one of the 12 final contestants in the music reality tv show called “Nokia First Chance” and went on to perform at the Nigerian Music Awards dinner. He joined Access Bank in 2008 but still continued with his music. Being a ‘Banker by Day, Singer by Night’; he released his first single “Summertime” in Dec 2009 and the song was on Inspiration FM top ten for about 8 weeks. He opened up for Asa at the “ASA on the green” concert in January 2010 performing alongside Bez and Ibiyemi.
His musical influences include Marvin Gaye, Seal, John Legend, R.Kelly, Dwele, Anthony Hamilton, Fela, Asa, 2face, Maxwell, D’angelo.
Dipo is signed as an artiste under Cackland Music and is being Managed by Rouge Management. His new single “Be Your Man” is currently receiving a lot good reviews.
Peep the 2 tracks below. On “Be Your Man“, he makes use of the talking drum which is my fave instrument in the world.
