DIARY OF A ‘MAD’ SPORTS FAN

share on:

Monday: Don’t we all hate Mondays, I woke up by 7am and as usual I was late for work. Don’t blame me, I had to drop loved ones at the Airport twice over the weekend, attend a party and fought with like 3 workers on a construction site in Lekki (I am not troublesome, it’s work related, Nigerian foremen are just so deceitful).

The 2010 US OPEN started today without Men’s defending Champion Juan Martin del Potro and 2008 Champion Serena Williams. My Prediction: I see Kim Clijsters and Roger Federer taking it this year.

Still had some energy to watch ‘The A-TEAM’ at the Cinemas. Nice movie.

One or two peeps deleted me from their bbm, their loss!!! Is it a sin to be a sports fan?

Tuesday: Work, Work, Work. Today marks the end of the European transfer window (for football lovers). We saw a couple of transfers like:

Robinho to AC Milan

Ibrahamovic to AC Milan (on a one year loan that could become permanent)

Huntelaar to Schalke 04

Joseph Yobo to Fenerbache

Asamoah Gyan to Sunderland (that guy claims to be 24 years old, African players and their African age sha)

On a sad note, Danny Shittu was released by Bolton Wanderers today, hopes he get a new club pretty soon.

Wednesday: Today was dulling, planned to see GROWN UPS at the cinemas, but as usual work, work, work. The sporting world on the other hand was buzzing:

The Cricket match-fixing ring that rigged the Lord’s test between England and Pakistan (watch out for more details on www.360nobs.com).

Tennis star and Number 10 seed Victoria Azarenka was taken to the hospital after collapsing on court during her second round match with Gisela Dulko at the US OPEN (lazy bones, she should come and experience a sunny day in Lagos). American star Andy Roddick crashes out of the US OPEN.

I think I am getting addicted to Soundcity Music Channel (the channel is on point and ESPN is focused on the US OPEN).

Thursday: Dry day. Beckham eyes 11th September return to football after a long injury spell and Portugal’s football coach, Carlos Queiroz is banned for 6 months.

Friday: I got to see GROWNUPS (eventually) at the cinemas. Laughter is really the best medicine.

European Qualifiers for football lovers.

Another scandal: Wayne Rooney cheats on wife! Cooley with a HOOKER…We all make mistakes (okay, I just said that because I support Manchester united). Get full details on www.newsoftheworld.co.uk

Saturday: More European qualifying games, I miss my premiership games jare.

Buffet at Sheraton with friends. The food was crap but my friends were cracking me up with jokes. After some time, I could not concentrate as I was on my BB monitoring the NFL teams trim their team to a 53-man roster. Many Nigerians were cut from their team this year:

Cyril Obiozor (Green bay Packers)

Ikechukwu Ndukwe (Kansas City Chiefs)

Victor Adeyanju and Chris Ogbonnaya (St. Louis Rams)

Don’t you just hate it when Nigerian Players get cut? On that sad note, I left Sheraton around 10:30pm and went home.

Sunday: Could not make it to church, I guessed I had eaten too much last night.

Watched Nigeria vs. Madagascar (the only African Cup of Nations qualifier I watched). I must confess I actually enjoyed the match. I think our boys played very well. Notes from the game:

Osaze’s new haircut comes with a new and improved player.

Obafemi Martin’s career is not over after all.

Uche Kalu is Nigeria’s most consistent player.

➢ I was happy to see that our home based players were introduced during the second half.

Joseph Yobo needs to get himself together.

➢ There is still so much work to be done.

I went to Ikoyi to play flag football. I burnt some calories.

Stopped at Mega Plaza to buy Shawarma and I think I saw Tari Ekiyor (wishful thinking).

Got home and watched Andy Murray crash out of the US OPEN.

NFL star Darrelle Revis and New York Jets agree on a 4 year deal. Stayed up all night to monitor the deal and I have to be at work by 7:30am. I am sorry for myself.

PS: Am I the only one that noticed Venus Williams’ wicked outfit during the US OPEN.
