A volunteer firefighter, Steve Whitcomb, who responded to a duty call, and attempted to save a woman in a serious car accident on Christmas eve was dealt a heartbreaking blow by fate when the mangled body of the dying woman he pulled from the crushed SUV happened to be his daughter, Katie Hamilton.

According to police chief  bill Augley, he told the union leader that Steve did not initially recognize her. He also said Hamilton, 30, died as a result of the injuries caused when another vehicle struck hers from behind, pushing it into the opposing lane of traffic, where a third collided with hers head on.

Brooklyn is a small town of 4,000 residents and everyone holds Hamilton and Whitcomb in high regard, and deeply mourn the loss of Katie.  Before her death, she was really close to her father and both worked as plumbers. she was also a young mother.
