Chigozie Anaele, creator of Kachi Designs launched in April 2010, made her entrance as a newcomer to the fashion industry. I met the Huston based designer at the Ghana Fashion and Design Week 2012 where she was one of the designers showcasing.  Her style reflects young, flirty, and fun; also utilizing colourful African prints. In an interview with her she tells us more about her love for fashion and how she relaxes when she is not working.

MAYREEJAY:  How did you come about the name, KACHI DESIGNS?
KACHI: Well, I was looking for something catchy and I kept saying the name over and over again. So, I kept it but spelt it in the ibo version “Kachi”.

MAYREEJAY: How long have you been in the fashion business for?
K: Its 2 yrs and 6 months as of today

M: What has been the most challenging experience so far?
K: When I lost everything in a fire and had to explain to my clients.

M:  Who do you cater to and who are your clients?
K: I cater to a wide range of clients mainly the ages of 20-40

M: Which fashion shows have you been involved in?
K: African fashion week NYC, Houston fashion week, Brooklyn fashion week, Maryland fashion week, so on.

M:  Any new projects in the works?
K:  I will be coming out with a new line for the night life crowd but still sophisticated

M:  Which do you prefer  – Ready-To-Wear or Couture?
K: I prefer ready-to-wear.  We aren’t in this business just to be creative but to sell our products.

M:  What do you do in your leisure?
K:  Sew and designs

M:  What is great style to you?
K: Feeling good and looking good. Never anything over the top.

M: Favourite colour(s)? ?
K: Since I started designing I don’t have a favorite color I love them all now

K:  Definitely flats so comfortable

K:  I’m very shy.
