COMING UP QUICK – NOLLYWOOD’s NEW FACES

It does get boring seeing the same faces all the time in every other Nollywood movie. If it isn’t one starring Desmond Elliot, Tonto Dike, Ini Edo or Uche Jombo, then a Stephanie Okereke or Omotola Jalade is surely lurking around the corner.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel as a new breed of Nollywood stars are slowly but surely breaking the monopoly the old guards had on our screens.

360nobs.com takes a peep into Nollywood and presents three new acts that will shape the industry in the coming months.

IVIE OKUJAIYE:

Ivie Okujaiye first caught our eye when she won the fifth and final edition of the Amstel Malta Box office reality TV show in 2009. Her AMBO Movie titled ALERO’s Symphony starred singer Faze and premiered in April 2011, the 25 year old then went on to win an AMAA for best young actor.

These days Ivie stars as Ejiro, the lead character in Victor Sanchez’s experimental internet series #HowSheLeftMyBrother. With a truckload of potential and an impressive resume, Ivie looks set to takeover Nollywood.

LINDA EJIOFOR:

This light skinned actor is more famously known as Bimpe, a character she plays on MNET’s family TV drama; Tinsel. In a bold move Miss Ejiofor stepped out of her comfort zone in the second half of 2012 when she took her first steps into mainstream Nollywood.

Linda stars as Ejura in Rita Dominic/Mildred Okwo’s first production; The Meeting which opens October 19, 2012. Nollywood watchers predict that if Linda’s portrayal of Ejura is anything like her interpretation of Bimpe then we can expect to see more of her on the big screen.

UTI NWACHUCKWU:

It is no hidden secret that Uti has always had his sights set on Nollywood. The alumni of the Next Movie Star TV reality competition would eventually go on to win the top prize at Big Brother Africa two years ago. With his new found popularity Uti landed lead roles in blockbuster movies “In the Cupboard” and “True Citizens”.

With a modeling careering well underway and a charity foundation he recently set up Uti does have a lot on his plate. However the fresh faced celebrity is focused on being Nollywood’s leading man.
