Our Vision
To promote Autism Spectrum awareness and understanding in Nigeria and provide families and caregivers with a directory listing the necessary tools available in Nigeria to handle the challenges of the Autism Spectrum
What is Autism
Autism is a developmental disorder that some people are born with — it is not something you can catch or pass along to someone else. Autism affects the brain and makes communicating and interacting with other people difficult. People who have autism often have one or more of the following symptoms;
- Delayed language development
- Impairment in social interactions
- Repetitive and stereotypic behaviours, interests and activities.
Another characteristic of autism is what some people describe as “sensory overload”: Sounds seem louder, lights brighter, or smells stronger .Not everybody with autism has the exact same symptoms. Some people may have autism that is mild, while others may have autism that is more severe. Because autism affects people differently, medical professionals call it a Spectrum Disorder. Two people with the same spectrum disorder may not act alike or have the same skills.
At the Seminar
At this seminar, we aim to equip parents with the tools necessary to help, understand and offer hope in battling Autism using various speakers. We shall also be presenting the 2nd edition of the Nigerian Autism Directory. A FREE directory listing, of the various services currently available in Nigeria.
It’s a Free seminar by invitation only.
