One Mic Naija is a live artiste showcase happening on Sunday, April 29, 2012 and this season sees acts from outside Lagos! We’ve already spoken with Dee Moneey who’s coming in from Ghana, and now we speak with Phizzle from Ibadan!
We caught up with him to ask him a fan question and also find out what to expect!
#FanQuestion What’sWhat’s the music scene in Ibadan like?
Ibadan is not really as fast paced as for example a Lagos, but there’s definitely talented acts lurking in its corners, from the rawest street forms, to church-friendly hip hop acts. The environment is a bit more conservative, so that whole music industry energy/buzz hardly ever reaches this zones, but we try. There are a couple of talented acts and teams about to come out the city though, time will tell.
Why did u sign up for One Mic Naija?
I attended past editions and loved the ambience and energy around it. The live band performances gave it that british underground rock feeling, I just knew I’d love to be part of that experience.
What do u like most about live performances?
It’s just the ‘rawness’ of it all. Its a sum of energy, talent, attitude, sound, action and of course the instant audience feedback. A good show with great audience response/feedback leaves a lasting memory in the mind of all parties involved.
Describe your style in three words
Fresh. Free. Alive.
What do you always do before getting on stage?
I just try to free the mind. Not really sure what exactly works for me yet, but I try to enter a state of mind that helps me give a performance that is enjoyable for both my audience and I.
Which of the other acts on the bill would you love to work with?
Chidinma and of course Sound Sultan. Already had the opportunity to work with Teeto on a feature for ChyKay, would definitely love to work with him again.
Well then Lagos, let’s show Phizzle what the Lagos scene is like!
