Sunday night is fast becoming my favorite night for watching TV and yeah you guessed it! one of the reasons is Glo Naija Sings Season 3. The start of this Sunday’s show made me sad as in a sad turn of events, one of ma favorites for the Glo Naija Sings crown was eliminated. Guess my vote wasn’t good enough
As the beautiful Peju from Alexander Forbes brought the dreaded envelope for Darey to open and announce who would be dropped following last week’s Afrobeat performances, you could almost cut the tension in the air with a knife. Darey really took his time reeling the lowlights and highlights to each of the performers.
Christian, Mattade & Tee Songz were told they were safe and were sent to the backstage to prepare.
This left the only 2 girls still in the competition, Vicky and Oni, on stage. Unfortunately for Oni, Darey announced her time on Glo Naija Sings had come to an end and she reverted to being a part of the voting public leaving the four to vie for the Glo Naija Sings title.
Goodbye Oni :'(
Oni exited singing Whitney Houston’s “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”
:'( :'( :'( :'( …moving on, hope you remember that you stand a chance to win a brand new HD PVR decoder or a Samsung galaxy tab every week just by voting. How you can vote can be found near the end of this article.
This week, the 4 contestants were asked to sing 1 International R&B track and 1 Naija Classic track.
Darey introduced this week’s judges: the swagger boss Naeto Super C was the guest judge along with the stallion Onyeka Onwenu and resident judge Olisa Adibua. Our own little freakshow – Denrele was backstage rocking his high heels, ice watch and half finished hair style
The performances started with Mattade singing Chris Brown‘s “She’s Ain’t You” and I really wished he hadn’t …His vocals was nowhere near Chris Breezy …didn’t really enjoy it as his vocals were lacking that energy required. To vote for him, please use the number 6.
Up next was Vicky who performed a song from my favorite Soul Diva – Ms Mary J Blige “Be Without You” and she made the song hers …she left me breathless, a fan confessed that she nearly cried listening to her. At this stage in the show, the real question is Can we Be Without Vicky? To vote for her, please use the number 9
Tee Songz sang Neyo‘s “Miss Independent” for his International hit <pause Wouldn’t it have been cool if he had done a Trey Songz number? unpause>. He wooed all the ladies in the house with his performance as there were shreiks from everywhere. A fan from the crowd shouted TEE SONGZ I LOVE YOU! Word of advice guys! Don’t leave your girl around Tee Songz cos it seems he has the special power of serenading the ladies. Truthfully speaking though, I personally thought he struggled with the delivery of the words and his stage presence covered it all up …Anuver Milli Vanilli moment. To vote for him, please use the number 10
We caught up with Denrele (he said he celebrates Halloween everyday …he is funny sha) as he mimicked the fans ‘Vicky almost made me cry, Tee Songz, I love u…‘ He then asked Vicky, Tee Songz and Mattade that if there were to shoot a music video, what concept would they do?
Vicky said Angelic and soulful
Mattade opted for a lot of graphics & effects with Denrenle would be the director.
Tee Songz said his would involve a lot of dancing featuring Denrele
Denrele said if he was given a chance to shoot his own video he would do one with him jumping rite over 3rd mainland bridge
On with the show, Christian jumped on stage to perform Lionel Richie‘s “Angel“. Christian made all the honies believe that song …most of them became his angels. It was a fairly good attempt. To vote for him, please use the number 2
Mattade 2nd song was P Square‘s “No One Like U“. 1st of all I loved his outfit for his 2nd performance and this time he actually brought his A game (Okay maybe B game) to the stage. A fan said she got goosebumps listening to him.
Denrele chatted with Christian backstage and asked him what he’s gonna get or do after the competition. Christian said he would probably travel somewhere to get a deserved rest. As Christian left to go get ready for his 2nd performance, Denrele caught up with Mattade and asked him the same question.
Mattade thanked everyone who had voted to keep him in and told Denrele they should meet in camera to discuss on how they’ll spend the winnings. Denrele said if they gave him money, at least he would be able to finish his air do.
Vicky sang Omawumi‘s “In The Music” and during her performance I nearly forgot that song actually belonged to Omawumi. Brillant performance! A fan told Vicky that she was amazing ( I agree) and told everyone that Vicky‘s number was 9, so vote.
Tee Songz choose Darey’s “Sisi Eko” for his 2nd performance and he blew everyone out of the water. What a performance! Wow! I was hoping the camera would close in on Darey so we could see his expression. The crowd went bonkers and wouldn’t keep quiet as a fan pledged his loyalty to him. Yeah, by the way his voting number is 10.
Talk about a night of fantastic performances!
Backstage, Denrele asked Tee Songz & Vicky what song best described the soundtrack of their life and what was the last song that moved them to tears
Tee Songz chose “World’s Greatest” by R Kelly and “Sisi Eko” by Darey while Vicky chose “Heal The World” by Michael Jackson and “I Believe I can Fly” by R Kelly
Christian 2nd song of the night was 2Face‘s “True Love“. What’s wrong with these acts? So they decided to bring the hidden vocal goodies for the top 4. Never heard them perform this good before. Christian got love from the fans
Denrele was backstage asking Christian how much work went into today’s performance. Christian said a lot of work and he gives the credit to the Glo Naija Sings officials. They’ve pushing all the acts to get the best out of them.
Denrele then said he would love to perform Terry G‘s “Nack U Akpako” and Darey said thanks but no thanks
So there you have it, eight fantastic performances from the Fantastic 4 (Vicky the Invisible girl, Tee Songz the Human Torch, Christian Grim the Thing and Mattade Mr Fantastic). If you are still confused like me on who to vote for, maybe the judges comments might help.
Super Boss Naeto C‘s lowlight was Mattade who failed to impress him. He felt the problem was a cross between picking the wrong song and not communicating the songs properly. Mattade failed to make the songs believable. His highlight was Tee Songz who had the ability to charm men and women; he also noted that Tee Songz was very expressive, which made the crowd rock with him all the time.
Onyeka‘s lowlight was Mattade. His vocal strength didn’t come out and he lacked the dynamics …there’s was no drama in his performances. She also told Christian that his performances were on a low key throughout. Her highlights – Tee Songz was superb and she thought he had all the women in this room cheering him. Vicky is something special, she believes Vicky would go on to do great things in the Nigerian music industry. She’s looking forward to hearing more from her.
Olisa said it point blank that Mattade must either come from a large family or a large village cos he couldn’t understand how and why Mattade was still in the competition. He seemed akward on stage cos like Onyeka said his voice hasn’t come out. Christian, he thought would use last week as a spring board, but he seems to have back to his withdrawn self.
Olisa said that whatever Tee Songz lacked in vocals, he made it up in performance. He pointed out to Tee Songz that he was shouting at times and not singing, so he should watch out for that. Olisa then said to Vicky
Whether u win this competition or not, which I think you should – you are a star …She has a knack of taking each song and making it her own.
